Badgers are legally protected in the UK and are on the UK Red list at risk of extinction. They live in setts (underground burrows) with an outdoor loo. They are 'ecosystem engineers', creating 'habitats and refuges for other wildlife'. Their foraging, latrine creation and sett building improve soil health.
